Today, I handed out an outline to each student which lists what we will be doing everyday through to the end of the term. I have inserted it below.
I then did a quick powerpoint introduction to Unit Four and gave them questions to answer on Chapter 15 (also inserted below). If you were not here, these are due tomorrow.

Outline from Jan. 4 to January 21

This is a list of what we will be doing from now until the end of the term. It is important that you examine it and, as everyone reads at different paces, that you prepare your time now to make sure you are ahead of the game when the dates hit (chapter readings). Also, you will need to make time to study and know the terminology we have examined (in the Glossary which starts on page 426 of your text). Keep in mind that your final consists of two parts: one written and one multiple choice.

UNIT 4Chapter 15: Roles and Responsibilities in A Globalizing World
The question you should be able to answer at the end of this unit is: To What Extent Should You, As A Citizen, Respond To Globalization?
INSTRUCTIONS: On a separate sheet of paper, neatly answer the following questions as indicated. This is to be done independently. Working with others will be defined as plagiarism. If you have questions or concerns, address them to me.
1. What is meant by the term “Quality Of Life”? Flip this question into a statement and answer it fully.
2. What is meant by the term “Disparity”? Flip this question into a statement and answer it fully.
3. Define what is meant by “Standard Of Living?” Flip this question into a statement and answer it fully.
4. What examples are given to determine a person’s standard of living? Flip this question into a statement and answer in list form (see question 8 on how to list them).
5. Define what is meant by “Gross Domestic Product”. Flip this question into a statement and answer it fully.
6. In 2005, what percentage of the countries of the world accounted for 96% of the world’s gross domestic product? You will need to find the number out of the total and then turn it into a percentage. This can be answered in short form.
7. What does the UN Human Development Index measure? Flip this question into a statement and answer it fully.
8. Name and describe the three basic areas of human development. Flip this question into a statement and then use a colon to start a point-form list (ie: My favourite activities are as follows:
· Dancing, because it is good exercise
· Marking papers, because I have some serious issues
· Etc)
9. What is meant by the term “Internationalism”? Flip this question into a statement and then answer fully.
10. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is based on six different categories. List them and explain what they mean (see question 8 for instructions on how to list them).
11. What is meant by the term “Democracy”? How important is it to a country? Why or why not? Flip this question into a statement and then answer it fully. Be sure that you KNOW how many questions you are really being asked and answer them all.
